What data we work with
StatusNotification and OCPP error codes (the boring, structured signal that carries most of the truth). MeterValues at session and interval granularity. Session logs with StartTransaction / StopTransaction correlation. Vendor diagnostics where exposed (connector temperature, relay cycles, RCD trip counts). Grid-side data where the CMS or the site meter shares it. When we've also written the charger firmware, we surface deeper signatures the vendor never exposed.

Why RIOD
We write charger firmware. When an OCPP error code says 'GroundFailure', we know what the actual RCD hardware did to trigger it, whether the pattern preceding it is transient or persistent, and what the fix is. Most analytics vendors treat error codes as opaque strings. We don't.

What is a charger intelligence layer?
It is an analytics layer built on top of a charging management system. It converts charger telemetry into health scores, fault analytics and uptime analytics, so operators can respond to degradation instead of waiting for drivers to report failures.
Does it replace my existing CMS?
No. It connects to your current CMS through APIs or by observing OCPP traffic. Your operations stay where they are; the intelligence layer adds the analytics your CMS does not provide.
Can it predict EV charger failures?
For some failure modes with useful lead time, yes, and RIOD is running an open research program to strengthen this. Today, patterns like repeated ground-fault trips, relay wear signatures, rising connector temperatures and increasing session failure rates precede most hard failures. The layer flags these so maintenance is scheduled instead of reactive. Prediction as a broad, shipped capability is not yet honest to claim; the research program is where that changes.
Does it work with any charger brand?
Any OCPP-compliant charger. Depth of insight depends on what diagnostics the vendor exposes, and we extend depth for chargers where we also build the firmware.
